It is hard work for Mihdi to get his homework done, but he does it. Therapy time cuts into homework time, which also makes the situation very challenging. While he is still working below grade level for his age, he is learning and making remarkable progress, particularly considering that at one point it was felt he would not even be able to talk.
School Days
Off for another day at school. Actually, Mihdi really enjoys his time at school. It is one of the few areas of his life that has some normalcy as compared with other children, and he enjoys being with his friends. School is very difficult for him, however, as one aspect of his condition is that he has not as yet developed a full capacity to learn and retain information. Over the last number of years, Dr. Wu has been addressing brain function as part of Mihdi's treatment protocol, and marked progress is seen. At the same time, he has lost much school time due to illness, such as when he was off for several months recovering from the stroke he suffered.
During the past few years, Mihdi has been able to participate in one-on-one extracurricular tutoring through a private learning agency. This has helped him progress greatly, and learn in a way that is not possible for him in the regular school system. Private learning, however, is very expensive, with costs running at $1500 per month. Currently, Mihdi is not able to attend due to lack of funds. Assistance is needed to help Mihdi return to tutoring so he doesn't lose too much ground.
Graduation Day from elementary school. Here Mihdi accepts congratulations from his teachers during graduation ceremonies. It was an exciting day for him.
Now that he is in middle school, it is very important to get the extra help he needs, for highschool is not far off, and he needs to be prepared. At this point, he is far from working up to grade level.
